"God is within her, she will not fall."- Psalms 46:5

things I wish I knew...

I know I can not be the only one who looks back and thought “well dang if I just would have known that my life would have been so much easier” because same! I thought I knew it all when I should have taken my mom's advice in SO many situations I was in. But I was young and dumb, and I thought that there was no way my mom knew what she was talking about. At the age of sixteen, I thought I was an adult. I could drive, and I was ready to take on the world and all its challenges. Here are a few things I wish I would have known that hopefully helps someone reading this! (PS. Moms are always right)
  1. That who you are in high school does not define your life. Being a girl in HS is a hard time. You think you have to be this perfect image, or people will make fun of you. But just be yourself!! Embrace that you are different. Enjoy it! Do what makes YOU happy! I promise you will find your best friends in college and your future bridesmaids who will be so supportive and uplifting in your life.
  2. This was a hard one for me to learn, but you’re not an adult until you’re paying your bills! (aka listen to your parents) I thought my parents were against me when they would stay on me about my grades and push me to be the very best version of myself. I thought they were “overprotective” when I had to be home not a minute past curfew. But looking back I was so lucky to have parents who stayed on me and wanted me to succeed. Now I am in college, and I know what and what not to do to be successful in life. All thanks to my parents!
  3. Play sports or just get involved! When I was in HS I cheered and played soccer at my school, and I miss it. Don’t take advantage of it. I would do anything for one more long hard practice, or even 5 minutes in a soccer game. Give it your all, and do everything you can so you never look back and regret it! Enjoy it while you can, it goes by very fast!
  4. Study hard, prepare for the ACT, apply for every scholarship, and do everything you can to help pay for college. It’s expensive, but don’t get lazy and not study. I wish I would have put in more hours studying for the ACT, but I just made the score I needed and stopped. I was content with it when I should have kept pushing myself when I had the opportunity to.
  5. There is a slim chance that the boy you’re dating is your husband. I promise you I’ve been there done that. I don’t regret anything because it was all a part of God's plan for me, but I learned so much about myself from it. I promise if it doesn’t work out, you will be okay... the grass is always greener on the other side.
  6. ENJOY BEING YOUNG!!! Don’t think you have to grow up so fast, because you blink and you’re a junior in college, wishing you had the simple life of being an HS student living at home with your parents. Life is hard. You will have ups and downs, but put your trust in Him and you will get through it!
  7. Work out and eat healthy. Get good habits going, because your metabolism will slow down. I didn’t believe it either. I went from eating whatever I wanted while playing sports to having to eat carrots instead of chips. (If you follow my girl happy healthy Hailey on TikTok then you understand)
  8. Spend as much time with your parents, and grandparents. Once you move away, if you are like me, you will miss them so much. Enjoy every moment and lunch date you get with them. I know I sure do miss the shopping trips me and my grandmother used to take.
  9. Don’t worry, it gets better! Whatever you’re going through in life is not the end of the world! You will overcome it!! High school is just 4 shorts years of your life, and it will not make or break you! You decided how you’re going to live your life! Pray more, worry less. Let go of the things you can’t control.
  10. Don’t stress over the small things, because in a few years no one will remember or even care! I know it’s hard right now, but you’ve got this!
Just do what makes you happy!!!! Life is too short, don’t take the small things for granted.
Always remember to smile more & laugh often!
Lots of Love, Madalyn ♡
